There are seasons where God begins to open new doors, shift our direction, or call us into something unfamiliar — but sometimes the hardest part is not stepping forward, it is letting go of what is behind us.
We become attached to old seasons because they were familiar. Even if they hurt us, disappointed us, or no longer fit where God is leading us, familiarity can still feel safer than change. We hold onto old mindsets, old relationships, old expectations, old routines, and even old versions of ourselves because we fear what will happen if we finally release them.
But you cannot fully receive something new while constantly looking back at what used to be.
Sometimes the reason we feel stuck is not because God stopped moving, but because our hearts are still emotionally living in a season He already asked us to leave. We pray for new beginnings while secretly grieving what we do not want to surrender. We ask God for growth while resisting the process that requires change.
And the truth is, every new season will require faith.
Faith to trust God even when the future is unclear.
Faith to believe that obedience is better than comfort.
Faith to release what no longer aligns with where God is taking you.
Not every closed door is punishment.
Not every ending is failure.
Sometimes God closes things because He sees what you cannot yet see.
Isaiah 43:18–19 says,
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing.”
God is not asking you to pretend the past never mattered. He is asking you not to stay stuck there forever. Because if you keep holding too tightly to what was, you may miss what He is trying to do now.
Maybe this season is your invitation to finally release the old and trust God with the new.
